Work 4 Peace,Hold All Life Sacred,Eliminate Violence! I am on my mobile version of the door-to-door, going town-to-town holding readings/gatherings/discussions of my book "But What Can I Do?" This is my often neglected blog mostly about my travels since 9/11 as I engage in dialogue and actions. It is steaming with my opinions, insights, analyses toward that end of holding all life sacred, dismantling the empire and eliminating violence while creating the society we want ALL to thrive in

jc/rkelly hiphop concert

Sunday has turned out to be an experience in all-encompassing voter reg methods – first, we set up 2 ironing boards on opposite street corners in front of a church we found on Euclid street, then we went door to door in an apartment complex; and finally we ended up registering voters in front of the jc/rkelly something concert as folks streamed in! and we were joined by a couple more new codepink wimmin – yeah Cleveland!!!
We attempted to find the mt zion church early this morning so we could greet parishioners prior to their entering the services in hopes that maybe they’d be inspired to talk about codepink & peace if they're not already talking about it – not only could we not find the address, we couldn’t even find the neighborhood either, at least as far as we knew. We did find an awesome corner on Euclid in front of a Methodist church – a very progressive Methodist church as well! We registered at least 20 or 30 voters – most were driving by but we were positioned on either side of the red light so they had to stop anyway! It was a very effective way to register voters, for future reference!
After church let out, we were able to interview one womon who spoke eloquently & powerfully about love and doing good to folks as the true Christian path and not killing & violence. She was willing to be videod & makes another wonderful addition to our documentary! She does not want to be seen on tv tho…~~
We left there to swing by an apartment project where we made friends w/several children who accompanied us thru the buildings, telling us who was home, who was not. After covering many apartments & not finding too many folks unregistered, we headed out for the concert.
The hiphop genre is not my scene but I was so thoroughly impressed by the number of folks who were emphatically & firmly for kerry & against bush. Hundreds, if not thousands, of folks streamed by & I do not recall ONE person expressing support for bush. We were wearing our ‘pink slip bush’ t-shirts and some folks just saw the 'bush' & thought we were for bush – they’d shake their heads & look scornfully at us until I’d explain what ‘pink slip’ means – then they were all smiles & shouts! From the very old to the very young, and even the police providing security – all were inspiring for us, most were registered although we did end up with almost 40 filled-out forms!!! That was also touching, that people took the time to register to vote even tho they were worried about getting into the concert on time!
Now rae & ariel went their own way at this concert – I’ll let them tell this story but beware, it involves a couple dozen shrimp, a contest, and a couple of tickets they could have auctioned off for at least $200, but chose not to! youth - baffling sometimes!!! Peace, sam

returning to cleveland & the DIXIE CHICKS

Driving up to Cleveland again was even more awesome then driving to Columbus – at least 35 yeahs, some wildly enthusiastic, some chuckles, and some peace & love signs! We’re wondering where the hell the split vote is here in ohio? Because we were so well taken care of, we don’t get to Cleveland until moments before the Dixie chicks begin their concert – actually james taylor is opening for them. Once again our Rae Wonder gets us set up inside the lobby, sharing a table with moveon.org! Once again, we are able to disperse lots of codepink info and get many folks signed up for Cleveland codepink. There are more bush supporters scattered thru this crowd than, of course, the ani difranco crowd but the overwhelming majority of folks are peace & kerry supporters!
And once again, rae & ariel take on the task of getting pink slips signed, which is no small feat – this time they get both james taylor AND the DIXIE CHICKS!!!! This next codepink slip auction is going to be outta site!!!!!
we have big plans for tomorrow, even tho we wait for the dixie chicks until almost 2:00a.m. - did i tell you i'm hanging out with nite owls? young nite owls at that - we want to hit a church in the a.m. - to try to get more christian footage & to register voters; then we want to go door-to-door in the afternoon, and we're working on setting up at some hipster/hiphop/rap concert that is happenin at nite! peace, sam
